First quick project of 2012...

My mother is always on the look out for things that fit my style and lucky for me, she scored this vintage cane barrel chair for me at an amazing deal.. and by amazing I mean $10!! The barrel chair or tub chair, is a reproduction of the french Louis XVI Bergeres. You can still find these antique chairs from the 1700's at an incredibly high price; you can also get the look for less by finding a vintage one from the 1940's-1950's. While I will splurge on antiques that have significant meaning to me, I'm all about designing on a dime. Decorating isn't about finding the most expensive pieces, it's about finding the pieces that fit your lifestyle while staying in sync with your budget. After sanding down the original dark stain I thought about colors and fabric choices. Spray painting is always the easiest and quickest option for cane back chairs and I chose the color "pebble" by Krylon sold at Ace Hardware. I decided to skip a primer because I wanted the darker wood color to come through when I sanded it. I removed the orginal fabric and added new foam and stapled on fresh batting before reupholstering. Voila.. a simple french eclectic addition to my home. Completing projects makes my soul happy! What projects are on your to-do list this year? xoxo -jennifer bianca

As 2011 wraps up, I look back and have memories filled with warmth, laughter, and love... I hope the same for you! As for 2012, I will continue to try and find inspiration in every day life and the beauty in simple things. It really is a lovely world everywhere you look and hope you find your inner creativity every step along the way! My love of chandeliers continues from the interior to the outdoors... As I begin to draw upon ideas for my next project I came across a picture of a glittering patio scene complete with a crystal chandelier. I swooned; not only are these enchanting spaces, they become an extension of your home. Many of us put our efforts into outfitting the inside of our house while the backyards are put on the back burner. I'm inspired by these pictures to create a dreamy outdoor oasis that fits my style. The best part is that these chandeliers aren't hard to make! I came across many DIY style ones that are pretty and practical. What's the first thing that comes to mind when looking at these photos? For me, it's casual warmth.. I love, love, love slip covered furniture because it gives a room an approachable, laid back and comfortable atmosphere. I also really like that depending on the details, slipcovers can be whimsical with a sweet skirt or pleat or clean, crisp, and modern for a more transitional style room. You've gotta respect a classic... to me, a zebra rug is one of those timeless "go-to" decor items that can bump up the design wow factor of a room. When done tastefully in a minimalist fashion, zebra print gives off an immediate air of chic glamour to a space that always looks smart. I've only just finished my bedroom and I'm already considering new bedding.. terrible, I know, but when someone is in love with decor it's sometimes hard to keep your heart set on one style.
