My master bedroom..

 Update: 6/1/2012 Master bedroom makeover..

While I enjoyed our gray and white bedroom I was itching to make it a little more romantic. I changed up the bedding and gave my furniture a face lift with the help of some new knobs, paint and the hand sander. I'm super happy with soft textures and the fluffy layers of whites and creams. Our master bedroom is coming together nicely, but in my mind far from complete. The color palette I chose was to stick with gray and white while adding splashes of black for a little bit of drama. I found this picture online and used it for some inspiration.

I found a great french style cane headboard for a deal at a second hand shop. It was originally green so I gave it a coat of spray paint primer and ultra white spray paint it was just what I envisioned for her! Also, my white night table was from a consignment store and was a dark brown with gold fabric behind the doors. I removed the fabric, sanded, and used my trusty ultra white spray paint. The dresser was from a garage sale and was white with brass pulls..no bueno. I chose to paint it "sparrow" gray by benjamin moore. For the brass pulls, I gave them a bath in black matte spray paint. The white dresser I purchased about 6 years ago at a church yard sale and it was in my daughter's nursery. I originally put pink glass knobs on it from anthropologie..I switched those out for some matte black knobs from home depot that had a cute vintage feel to them.. My ultra handy husband framed in our television to give the room a more polished look. (yes ladies, he hangs all my chandeliers as well! don't be jealous) The cane back chair I painted and reupholstered (you don't want to see the before picture.. it was not pretty. Let's just say I think it hadn't been sat in since the 70's) and the side table was from Home Goods...originally black, so I painted it white and distressed it. 

Open a book; open up a whole new world..

One of my favorite ways to unwind is by reading a good book. I especially like when I come across an author with an amazing talent of storytelling. The way they describe the scenes, characters, smells, sights.. it's like I'm actually there. Kate Morton is one of those writers that brings you into the book and makes it impossible to put down.. I've read all three of her novels and adore each, but I have to say my favorite is The House at Riverton. Without revealing too much.. The story takes place in England at the start of WWI and spans through to the mid 1920's. It's a story about sisters, family, and secrets. I always recommend this book to other friends and it instantly becomes at the top of their "favorites" list! Definitely give this one a read.. you won't be disappointed! xoxo jennifer bianca

Bring on the cane! Every time I see an antique, vintage, or reproduction cane piece I swoon.. It's just one of those decor styles I never tire of.. It's utterly french and romanticly chic. I also like that cane chairs, headboards, side tables, etc are able to add a special touch to any room. From french country to hollywood regency, cane finds it's home in any dwelling. happy decorationg! xoxo-jennifer bianca

Oh.. if walls could talk.. I think they would tell endless stories of those who've lived within their confines.. I love exposed brick because it reveals the rich history of a building and also gives a hip industrial vibe to a room. I'm completely jealous because in Florida it's nearly impossible to find an older home with this kind of construction. That is why to make myself feel better I installed a Chicago brick driveway.. hey, I figured if I couldn't have it in my house then I would bring some brick to my doorstep. For all of you that live in areas lucky enough to come across a gem of a wall when doing some demo work.. I say, let it all hang out! I have to say that my dear husband has given me the title as "the chair lady"...while I will own up to it 100% ..I can't help but feel that being crowned "the chair lady" isn't a compliment. Nonetheless, my obsession with accent chairs will continue! Currently I'm loving wire chairs. They can be both industrial and romantic at the same time and those are two things in decor I totally dig. The Eames wire chair was introduced in 1951 and was an instant hit.. Harry Bertoia, the Italian sculptor and furniture designer, followed suit with the diamond wire chair in 1952. You can now easily find these style chairs at many home decor stores. Recently I was reading about Keri Russell's Brooklyn home in Elle Decor (last picture)..she's a big fan of ABC home&carpet (my place of bliss) and she found her dining room wire chairs there... Now if only I can find a spot in my house to stick one of those.. I'm on the hunt! happy decorating! xoxo-jennifer bianca

My family room..

While my vision and execution of my living room came together rather quickly.. the progress on our family room was slower. It's the room our family uses the most because it opens up to our kitchen, our kitchen table is in here, and also where we watch television the most. Even though it's a high traffic area, I was dead set on sticking with my favorite colors of light gray and white. Bleach is a mother's best friend. Here are a few pictures of the family room coming along as well as a brand new kitchen hutch I scored at a consignment store this past weekend. It was previously brown and I sanded it down, gave it a couple coats of "gentle rain" by behr, and then lightly distressed. I'm extremely happy with the way it came out!

I'm a forever fan of the french settee, especially the Lous XVI style. There is something completely romantic about the design and it evokes the nostalgia of a by-gone era. I'm drawn to them because they encompass my exact style, french eclectic: they are a bit shabby chic and playfully modern. French settees are uber popular in the interior design world, but they are classic and have staying power. Hey.. the style dates back to 1754 and it's not going away anytime soon!
