I've noticed that whenever I'm drawn to an interior design picture online or in a magazine, 90% of the time there is one common denominator.. a gigantic crystal chandelier.. and the more bedazzled the better! Chandeliers are like the icing on the cake, the cherry on top; and I prefer my sundae with extra sprinkles. Whether you prefer lighting that is sleek and modern, rustic, or traditional, a great fixture provides ambiance and atmosphere to a room. Tip: a MUST have with any chandelier: to create the perfect mood for day or ambient light at night is a dimmer switch; so enlist the hubby, boyfriend, or hire a handyman, it's essential to put one in.
My latest obsession: It was love at first sight when I saw these semi-precious turquoise empire chandeliers by Marjorie Skouras Design, but at $6,900 a pop, it's safe to say they're not in everyone's budget. If you want to add a dash of turquoise to a room on the cheap, you can buy a wrought iron chandelier, remove crystals, and spray paint! (see last picture.. This chandelier is from Lowe's and retails for around $100. Walk over to paint aisle and pick up a can of aqua spray paint and you're good to go!)
